Garnet Neckalce

mediums: silver and garnet leaf pendant, thai silver beads, high quality garnet ovals, star rubies, garnet coins and rounds, african metal beads, size no.2 nylon thread, etc...

i took my mom to a surprise visit to one of my favorite bead stores in san diego after we went to the art walk. lost cities beads is a great little bead shop if you're in the downtown san diego area. anyway, i discovered the high quality bead trays and my mom picked out some fine garnet oval coins. by the gram (which is how they're priced when they're that nice) the 2 large beads were about $17 i think. yikes says i. but i promised i'd make her a necklace to go with it and i did. i then hit up beads, crystals and more in encinitas which is also a very fine bead store in north county and found the pendant. i finished it last night but it really wasn't up to snuff....... so i returned to beads and more for a new clasp... and a few other things. then i returned to lost cities and got some thai silver beads to go more with the pendant. it needed some texture really bad. i wish i could have put more texture in but nothing else i saw out of the 3 bead stores i went to today seemed to work. the star rubies i found at beads and more a few months ago but didn't have anything to put them in as they had such a great star in each of them i didn't want to blow it on something crappy. i suppose i'm content with this and i'm going to give it to my mom tomorrow morning.
